NBDCA RULES

What rules are followed? The Top Gun Championships generally follows NBDCA rules. For a complete set of rules visit http://www.nbdca.com/.

A rule meeting will be conducted Thursday evening, at approximately 6:00 P.M., prior to the start of the tournament at the Little Creek Lodge Hunting Club. At this time, we will be discussing rule modifications, as well as bird setting guidelines. All bird setters, judges, field marshals, and club owners will be present. All competitors are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Past and Present NBDCA Rule Modifications:

  • A Top Gun Governing Committee that consists of a event owner, NBDCA owner, club owner, two flusher representatives, and two pointer representatives will be established prior to the start of the tournament. The job of this committee is to troubleshoot certain situations that may arise during the Top Gun Championships.
  • Players are allowed to use electronic collars at the Top Gun Championships.
  • Dogs in heat will not be allowed to participate in the Top Gun Championships.
  • For pointing divisions, a dog must hold point for three seconds and the competitor must stop for three seconds to receive pointing points.
  • For pointing divisions, a "trapped" or "caught" bird is considered a bird in the dog's mouth, even if the dog releases the bird allowing the competitor to shoot the bird.
